Whenever i ask you to dream, do not take me wrong. Of course, you need to be practical as you go through your life. You also need to operate intelligently and plan your life well. It is also extremely important to use common sense before taking any decisions. Any foolish risks can definitely lead to some difficult consequences for you and your family. You also cannot be very selfish and just ignore your immediate responsibilities towards your family and society.
Having said all this, i also want to state that you should not be afraid of failures too. Do not regret the consequences of not living the life of your dream. That might just turn out to be the biggest regret of your life. Do not always be so reasonable and practical that
you fail to seize the glorious opportunities that come your way. When opportunities knock your door (and they surely do), do not start thinking that what others will think about it or how others would feel if you pursue those opportunities. If your inner voice tells you that this is the right way to go, and you have a plan to take care of your other responsibilities, then you must go all out for it.
Remember that critics have always laughed at great visionaries initially, simply because their thinking pattern was different from the normal. For the same reason, they did different things and were, hence, termed as visionaries. There are so many examples of visionaries who were laughed at, in the beginning of their pursuit whether it was Abraham Lincoln, Wright Brothers, Graham Bell, or anyone else who had the courage to pursue their dreams in spite of all situations. You have got to ignore all those critics.
Today, this world needs more dreamers.
I would encourage all of you to dream a little more, because persistent dreams might also generate seeds of courage within you and one day you would get the courage to pursue some of your long cherished dreams. Some day, you would get enough guts to come out of the "ordinary" and what the world considers as "normal". Some day, you would carve out your own new "normal".
Keep dreaming. There would come a day when you would take a decision to come out of your comfort zones and start doing things differently. You can be one of them. It is a just a question of dreaming and having the courage to get started on one of them. Once your dream starts becoming bigger, you will find ways to take care of your responsibilities and duties that were earlier inhibiting you from pursuing your dreams.
Around 8 years back, i learnt a very important from one of my mentors, and the message is very simple.
"If the Dream is big enough, facts do not count".
So, dream a little more... this would feed your dreams and your dreams would start becoming bigger. As your dreams become big enough, any other facts around you will become irrelevant because you will automatically find ways and means to take care of all other facts.
Kahlil Gibran, in "The Prophet" made the point which really hit me
"The lust for comfort murders the passion of the soul"
Go and dream a little more.
Cheers
